A full and varied programme of events took place to coincide with the unveiling of the statue.
The programme for the unveiling weekend included:
- Donors’ Dinner in the Chateau de Montreuil
- Official unveiling ceremony
- Addresses by the Mayor of Montreuil and others.
- Laying of wreaths at the War Memorial.
- Memorial Service in the Église Sainte-Saulves, Montreuil-sur-Mer (with Ypres Lone Piper).
- Vin d’Honneur (reception cocktail) in the Citadelle of Montreuil-sur-Mer, as guest of the Mayor and the Town Council.
- Visit to the Commonwealth War Graves cemetery in Étaples; wreath-laying.
- Visit to La Chartreuse, Neuville-sous-Montreuil: WWI hospital and Belgian reception centre [‘Quand la Chartreuse était belge (1914-18)’].
All-day events included:
- Talks by English/French specialists and historians (Dr Charles Goodson-Wickes, Jonathan Walker, Bruno Béthouart) (various venues).
- Exhibition of Photographs from the Haig Family Archives, ‘GHQ Generals’) (Tourist Office).
- Exhibition of Photographs in the Tourist Office.
- Visit to La Chartreuse, Neuville-sous-Montreuil: WWI hospital and Belgian reception centre [‘Quand la Chartreuse était belge (1914-18)’].
